Recognizing this need, Q Factor was formed to push the boundaries and break the mold. Not following conventional development practices or funding, Q Factor established a winning strategy of true placemaking and inspired master planning. As Co-Founder and Partner at Q Factor and INDUSTRY, Jason Winkler reimagines urban revitalization. By circumnavigating conventions and unearthing ways to do it better, Jason creates mindful, modern solutions that help once-forgotten spaces transform into vibrant, connected neighborhoods.
At his core, Jason is a force multiplier. With a vision guided by passion and purpose, every development he designs has the power to amplify opportunity and multiplies possibilities by transforming the community at large.
A self-made, serial entrepreneur, Jason has built a dynamic career spanning (3?) decades, co-founding multiple outdoor media companies and launching first-of-their-kind creative workspaces. With the advent Q Factor—a united suite of firms that specialize in creative design and adaptive re-use for unparalleled placemaking in urban environments—Jason has become an industry thought-leader driving the pace of change for integrated work spaces.
His firm has become an internationally recognized organization that develops large scale, multi-acre urban ecosystems that serve as catalysts for growth. These dynamic spaces, known as INDUSTRY, integrate lives, work, and play to better support changing needs. INDUSTRY footprints across the U.S. include two properties in the RiNo Arts District of Denver, Detroit, and Salt Lake City. Continuing to grow, Q Factor is now spearheading the development of over 30 acres of mixed-use properties in downtown Salt Lake City. With a 360-degree view of development, Jason and his team work with local communities and governments to ensure these transformative spaces align and highlight what makes these local communities unique.
Co-Founder and Design lead
Ellen Winkler is a cultivator of possibility. As the Co-Founder and Partner of INDUSTRY, she is one of the most influential urban planners in America. As a master designer, real estate visionary and placemaking expert, Ellen leverages insight to understand community needs.
With a talent for curating memorable activations and spaces, she is considered one of the founders of experiential design specializing in bringing client vision into reality. Ellen heads up all design on each INDUSTRY property (with four nationwide and counting), offering a personalized approach to every venture that better understands local dynamics. Now she has entered the urban planning world and is leading the design of over 30 acres in downtown Salt Lake City. These blocks will transform the city and update how city dwellers live, work, enjoy and congregate.
Ellen’s cumulative career encompasses a deeply rooted set of skills that allows her to elevate properties, thinking holistically to deliver an end-to-end experience. Her entrepreneurial spirit led to the ownership and management of Drumbeat, an experience-based design firm that transforms spaces for large and small-scale companies alike. Ellen’s design-thinking can be experienced in first-of-their-kind properties in urban metropolises across the country.
As a community leader, her commitment to evolving people and places translates to an extensive resume of volunteering and nonprofit work, garnering her the 2019 Women’s Chamber of Commerce Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Colorado, the 2018 Downtown Denver Champion Award and the 2017 Urban Land Institute Impact Award.
Chief Operating officer
As Chief Operating Officer for Q Factor, Dan Simpson is responsible for the oversight of a multi-building portfolio modern office projects over three states working directly for the Developer/ Owner. With over 23 years of commercial real estate experience, Mr. Simpson offers extensive corporate institutional experience and has worked with clients ranging from local ownership and private equity clients to major institutional clientele.
Dan ensures client goals are met – or exceeded – on all assignments, serving as a client liaison with respect to property operations, portfolio assessment and administration. Additionally, he provides expert knowledge in management and operations, including expense reduction, strategic staffing and development of operational efficiencies.
Prior to joining Q Factor, Dan was with Newmark Knight Frank where he was the Director of Management Services and oversaw a 6.5M sf portfolio and was responsible for business development. Prior to Newmark Knight Frank, Dan was with Clarion Realty Services, where, in addition to his portfolio duties, he was responsible for implementing a 10 million-square-foot rollout of Clarion Partner's energy management platform across the U.S. in conjunction with MACH Energy. He has worked for a diverse group companies throughout his career, including Clarion Realty Services, CBRE, Allright Parking, and Lockheed Martin Company; and his varied asset management experience includes award winning assets Plaza Tower One and the FBI Building, and Waterview I-IV, INDUSTRY Denver and INDUSTRY RiNo Station.
Chief Financial officer
Nate brings a diverse and comprehensive financial background to the Company. As Chief Financial Officer, Nate manages all accounting, financial modeling, capital deployment strategies, and risk management. Previously, Nate was a Vice President in UMB Bank’s commercial lending group where he was responsible for sourcing and underwriting commercial as well as real estate transactions, restructuring debt facilities and managing portfolio credit risk. Prior to commercial banking, Nate began his career as a Certified Public Accountant for Deloitte and Grant Thornton where he specialized in SEC filings, international tax consulting, and tax compliance for Fortune 500 companies. Nate received a Masters of Taxation and undergraduate degree in accounting from Baylor University.
As a leader in the community, Nate has served on the advisory board for ACE Scholarships and the board of directors for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. He has been recognized for his civic involvement through the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Impact Denver program and multiple nominations for the Denver Business Journal’s 40 under 40. Additionally, Nate is a nationally recognized wetland conservationist for his fundraising efforts working with Ducks Unlimited where he currently serves at the Colorado state chairman leading a membership of more than 10,000 people and raising in excess of $2.5 million annually.
Chief Development officer
Vinny English joined the Q Factor team as Chief Development Officer in 2018. With a passion for the built environment, Vinny excels at innovative problem solving, construction management and establishing built-to-last relationships. His resourcefulness and ability to push projects forward has aided in creating lasting community investments.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Vinny’s love for placemaking and civic involvement started at a young age. As an Eagle Scout, he rebuilt an entire fitness trail for a local school for the deaf and capitalized off this natural talent at the University of Denver. Graduating with a degree in Real Estate and Construction Management, Vinny has since been a part of various multi-million dollar projects including; the Denver International Airport expansion on Concourse C, the Desmond on Wilshire in LA with 175 unit of luxury apartments and 16M in Denver that included over 300,000 sq ft. of mixed-use space with 3 levels of underground parking.
With a mixed set of completed projects, Vinny brings to Q Factor a nimble and established focus that produces outcomes of success.
Chief People officer
Brooke Wilcken is a seasoned brand and business builder with over a decade in entrepreneurial, real estate and financial realms.
With an intentional approach to planning and strategy, she believes that every financial decision—every investment, real estate holding, trust or philanthropic venture—is connected. And by employing a holistic approach to every project at INDUSTRY, Brooke delivers not only breathtaking buildings that bring work to life, but also, connected experiences that make spaces more memorable and life-changing.
Throughout her influential career, Brooke has gained an exceptional knowledge of people. After launching her first business in Salt Lake City, Ut—a full service floral, bridal and event planning company—she developed an intimate knowledge of client needs, service and nuanced life-drivers of people from all walks. She translated her eye for details and a skill for strategic thinking into finance, where she worked in wealth management at Wacovia and the private trust world with First Western Trust and AMG National Trust.
Brooke knows people. Brooke knows money. And what she really knows, is how to create the bridge between the two—the space where the greatest value lies. A self-taught specialist, Brooke has honed an innovative, agile method to thinking and planning that directly influences the INDUSTRY and Q Factor mission.
In addition to her focus with INDUSTRY, Brooke is actively involved in community building, playing a role with several non-profits including the Greenway Foundation and the RiNo Arts District.
